When we were at Tech, there was an amateur (ham) radio shack in the Electronics/Radio Shop. Several of our classmates were ham radio operators. But, after we left Tech, electronic technology was rapidly changing and I did not have the time to keep up with it as I was busy with college and later, a career as an educator.

In 2011, there was a meeting to establish what became the Elk Grove-Florin Amateur Radio Club and a friend suggested that I might be interested. I attended the meeting and offered to be on the By Laws Committee.

For a few years, I was often the only person at meetings who did not have a license. As a result I was needled and nudged to get my ham radio license, and in 2014, took and passed the Technician Class License exam and was issue call sign KK6MVJ. In April of 2019, I took and passed the General Class License exam.

My call sign was not selected, but does follow the path I took until obtaining my license... Many Vectored Journey

Today, I am president of the Elk Grove-Florin Amateur Radio Club.

Moral of this story: If you had a special interest 'way back when' and can achieve earning the license to obtain that ambition, 'go for it'.

So sad to learn of the passing of another longtime friend and classmate.  I had many e-mail chats with Steve over the years.

Steve will be remembered from what would be called pre-algebra, today, in grade eight at Claremont, with Duane Tom, when we were all fed up with Miss Greenspan and being kept after school for the hyginks of a few 'class clowns'.  If I recall, it was these two, along with a few others who started a petition to have her terminated.

Having known the Pauletich 'twins' since grade four at Hillcrest, it will be difficult to not think of them that way any longer.  Hope that Joe is doing well and taking his brother's passing in stride, as for twins, this can be very difficult.
