The first summer right after high school I enrolled in a 2 year trade School “ Rets Electronics”. I also attended Laney College for two years I became an Electronic Technician. I began working as a T.V. & Radio Repairman. My first business was called” Busy Note Auto Radio Repair”. After two years I began working for the United States Postal Service at night. and a T.V. repairman by day. I got married early and got divorced early. We had a daughter.
In 1967 I began studying the Martial Arts. I had no intention of ever becoming a Martial Arts Teacher. When my Instructor moved to another state I was the senior student and I kept the students together doing Martial Arts as a side hobby. Later opening a Martial Arts school. The school grew bigger and faster than I thought it would. It required more time. I left the Postal Service to become a full time Instructor. The electronics became a weekend hobby for me. I have had the Martial Art School now for over 40 years. I am privileged to say I have the oldest Martial Art School in the Bay Area. I have studied several different Martial Arts. It took me 40 years to earn the Grand Mastership.
During my earlier Martial Artists years I had fun competing in Karate tournaments. I earning the title of #1 in region # one (the United States was divided into 10 regions) and # 5 in the World. My recognition for Grand Mastership came mostly for my works in fathering two other Martial Art Methods. I was so honored to perform one of the Arts that I fathered “ Kusema Vijiti (The Talking Sticks) “ at our 40th class of “61” Reunion (in 2001). My wife Mary, who has attended the past 3 Class of “61” Reunions with me is my 40 year business partner. She and I have 3 sons ages 24, 26,and 28. She also was rated #1 in Martial Arts Competition.
My weekend hobby is still somewhat in electronics I work with Macintosh computers. I belong to a group, we call ourselves Mac Masters.
Writing this has been fun. I was encouraged to write my profile after reading the profile of Betty Wilson Kearse . I hope other “61” Technites will do the same.
