Vernon as I knew him was a great guy. He and I had Mechanical and Architectural Drawing together. Vernon always amused me, as each week he would show up with some exotic canned food of one sort or another. One week it would be fried grasshoppers, the next chocolate covered ants, and so on.

Since he and I were seated next to each other, we would take turns completing and drawing the current project and next. He would design a house one week, which I'd copy with minor changes, while I'd be designing another house, which he would copy with minor changes. In effect, and between the two of us, we submitted more architectural drawings than any others in the class...received A and B+ grades too.

Another thing Vernon and I used to do, was run snail races within the confines of the large drawing desk drawer. At the end of the class period (or sooner) the loser forked over .25 cents to the winner. By the end of the year we were both even..but it was fun regardless.

Another good fellow I will miss.

I was right guard and Vernon was right tackel, we played together for 2 years and had good times on the football team. At the last reunion Vernon and I talked for about 1/2 hour and hashed old times and football stories. Will miss him this time around but will be in my thougths.

I lived only two houses away from Vernon throughout High school. He was always so kind, gentle and pleasant. Like Pat, I can't help but wonder what happened. I saw him, about 5 years ago at the grocery store in San Ramon. After all these years I still recognized his handsome, sweet face.  I'll always remember!
